The Cambodia KOFIH Global Alumni (KGA) successfully convened its 2025 General Assembly on May 9 in Siem Reap province, bringing together alumni, provincial health leaders and guests to celebrate progress and discuss future directions for improving healthcare in Cambodia.
Organised by the KGA Steering Committee with support from the Korea Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH), the event welcomed key public health leaders, including:
- Mr. Song Yonggun, KOFIH Cambodia Country Representative
- H.E. Le Chansangvath, Director, Banteay Meanchey PHD
- H.E. Sles You, Director, Pailin PHD
- Dr. Tek Sopheap, Acting Director, Pursat PHD
- Dr. Lim Sokong, President, Cambodia KGA
- Other distinguished guests and KGA alumni
Since 2010, the Dr. Lee Jong-Wook Fellowship Program has trained 174 Cambodian healthcare professionals through specialised programmes aligned with national health priorities. In 2016, the Cambodia KGA network was formed to sustain its impact via collaboration, knowledge-sharing and field projects.
In his remarks, Mr. Song praised the alumni's growing impact: “What began as a small initiative has evolved into a robust platform, offering 10 specialised training programmes across 18 sub-categories. This reflects both our shared vision and your unwavering commitment to building a healthier Cambodia.”
The Assembly featured two major KGA-led initiatives:
- Enhancing Newborn Care Services through Ward-Based Ultrasound at Takeo Provincial Referral Hospital
- Improving Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy Services at the Provincial Hospital Level
These initiatives reflect the alumni’s continued dedication to operationalising acquired training and contributing to the sustainable strengthening of national healthcare services.
The programme also featured experience-sharing sessions from frontline healthcare professionals representing Roka, Krakor and Kandieng Referral Hospitals, providing valuable insight into local innovation and impact.
A key milestone of the Assembly was the election of the new KGA Steering Committee for a two-year term. This leadership will guide the network’s strategic direction through 2027. The elected members are:
- President: Dr. Tuy Ratha (Pailin Referral Hospital)
- Vice President: Dr. Chiem Sokon (Krakor Referral Hospital)
- Secretary: Mr. Yen Rady (Roka Referral Hospital)
KOFIH reaffirmed its support for the Cambodia KGA’s ownership and leadership, and encouraged continued alumni engagement in strengthening global health systems.
