Westview Cambodian International School on May 21 presented awards to the winners of the American Math Competition (AMC).

Organised by Westview Cambodian International School and held at its campus in Phnom Penh's Russey Keo district on May 14. Participants came from both Learning Jungle and Westview Cambodian International School, as well as from 33 other national and international schools including Paragon, CIA FIRST, Northbridge, SCIA and Footprints.

With this the first time that the American Math Competition was open to the public in Cambodia, a high number of students from Grade 1 to Grade 9 participated.

The awards were divided into four categories – the most prestigious Director’s Award, followed by gold, silver, and bronze medals, with 36 Director’s Awards, 45 gold medals, 68 silver and 82 bronze presented.

Sok Vanny, director of Westview Cambodian and Learning Jungle International School, presided over the event.

Students participated in the AMC based on the international Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA) – a NWEA MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) system originally developed and used in the US.

The NWEA MAP system is used by top international schools in some 145 countries worldwide.

The system has the advantages of randomising questions and evaluating students' answers automatically, which, by avoiding human error, provides highly accurate and reliable results.

Not only for high performers, the American Math Competition inspired students of different levels of ability to learn and improve their knowledge and performance in the subject.
