The Ministry of Tourism has unveiled its list of 81 outstanding tourism-related businesses selected from across the nation as part of the “Visit Cambodia 2023” campaign.

On August 20, the ministry announced the results of the Outstanding Tourism Business competition, in line with its IBEST concept – improvement to service quality, booking convenience, environmental considerations, safety measures and technological integration.

This initiative, spearheaded by minister Thong Khon, saw participation from various tourism establishments nationwide. The call to participate was made on July 31, with tourism businesses from the capital and multiple provinces responding.

The participants included 27 businesses situated in Phnom Penh, nine in Siem Reap, 11 in Kampot, 23 in Battambang and 11 in Preah Sihanouk.

Khon, emphasising the importance of this competition, stated that involvement provides businesses with valuable insights for enhancing operational efficiency, service quality, and overall competence. This approach, he noted, ensures the delivery of swift, dependable and cost-effective services, fostering a secure, eco-friendly, and reasonably priced experience for domestic and international tourists, particularly in the aftermath of the Covid-19 crisis.

Ho Vandy, an adviser to the Cambodia Association of Travel Agents, emphasised the significance of the competition’s certification for business owners. He noted that the recognition conferred by the ministry through this competition holds great value in demonstrating the credentials of the tourism enterprises to both domestic and international tourists.

“This competition takes into account various aspects, including service quality, booking convenience, environmental considerations, safety measures and technological integration.

“Businesses meeting the ministry’s criteria will receive certificates as evidence of their organisational skills, hospitality excellence, service quality and ability to draw in greater numbers of tourists,” he said.

The competition’s criteria are centred around five key indicators: Enhancement of service quality, efficient online pre-booking systems, commitment to environmental preservation and cleanliness, prioritising safety and hygiene, and leveraging technology for innovative solutions.

The IBEST concept serves as a comprehensive roadmap, guiding tourism businesses to align their offerings and services with prevailing market demands. This approach not only supports the ongoing Visit Cambodia 2023 campaign but also aids businesses in adapting to the evolving landscape and needs of the industry.
