US animation studio DreamWorks will launch a kids channel in Cambodia next year, according to a company statement.

A press release from the California-based firm on Wednesday states that the company will launch a 24-hour channel, programmed solely by DreamWorks, into 18 different Asian countries during the second half of 2015.

“Audiences in the region have always embraced our content and now they can engage with their favourite DreamWorks characters . . . across multiple-screens and in local languages,” Eric Ellenbogen, co-head of DreamWorks International TV, said .

DreamWorks, which released films such as Shrek and Madagascar, is yet to cement a distribution partner in any of the Asian countries, a spokesman for the firm said. “HBO Asia is managing all affiliate sales to the individual markets but beyond that nothing has been formalised or announced,” he added.

DreamWorks will expand its network to Taiwan, Macau, South Korea, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Mongolia, Palau and Tahiti.

“The channel will leverage over 2,000 hours of existing DreamWorks TV content in addition to more than 1,200 half-hours of original animation the company currently has in production,” the firm said.
