Phnom Penh Autonomous Port (PPAP) has reported a positive first quarter performance, with cargo vessel traffic, container volume and revenue all increasing by approximately 30%.

The Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX)-listed company issued a detailed report of its January to March 2025 results.

“The unaudited operational results for Q1 2025 show that cargo and gas-fuel volumes reached 1,295,685 tonnes, a 31.82% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Container throughput totalled 121,425 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), an increase of 30.35%, and the number of cargo vessels reached 897, rising by 27.23%,” it said.

PPAP generated approximately $10.41 million in total revenue during Q1 2025, a 29% increase.

Chea Chandara, president of the Cambodian Logistics and Supply Chain Business Association, told The Post that Cambodia's freight and logistics sector has seen strong momentum since the end of 2023. The growth is driven by an increasing amount of foreign direct investment, which has been pushing the sector forward.

“For 2025, we’ve observed a rise in investor involvement since late 2024, surpassing the levels of 2023. That’s why I believe 2025 could turn out to be even better than 2024, especially judging from the first few months of this year,” he said.

The report showed that in 2024, PPAP handled 4,894 vessels, a 26.82% increase from 2023.

Container throughput reached 480,200 TEUs, up 21.19%, and cargo and gas-fuel volumes hit 4,806,654 tonnes, a 15.91% increase.

Currently, PPAP operates port terminals and inland container depots along the Mekong and Tonle Sap rivers, supported by a well-developed transport network connecting the port to seven key land routes.

These include the LM17 container terminal in Kandal province, TS1 passenger and tourism terminal in Phnom Penh, TS3 multipurpose terminal in Phnom Penh, TS11 multipurpose inland terminal in Phnom Penh, UM1 multipurpose inland terminal in Kandal, UM2 multipurpose inland terminal in Tboung Khmum and the LM26 multipurpose inland terminal in Prey Veng.
