Cambodia and the US have jointly organised the first-ever Cambodia-US Public-Private Sector Dialogue to support existing American investors in Cambodia and attract new ones interested in investing in the country.
The Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) announced on its official Facebook page that the inaugural dialogue was held on September 19, at CDC headquarters. It was co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and CDC first vice-president Sun Chanthol and Bridgette L. Walker, Chargé d'Affaires at the US embassy in Cambodia.

The event saw participation from representatives of relevant ministries and institutions, the president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia (AmCham Cambodia), the US-ASEAN Business Council (US-ABC), private sector representatives and various experts.
According to the CDC, this first dialogue serves as a new official platform for addressing the concerns of American investors through collaborative discussions and solutions, reflecting a spirit of partnership between the leadership of both countries.
The CDC also highlighted that the establishment of an investor care mechanism demonstrates Cambodia’s commitment to boosting the confidence of stakeholders, including both existing and potential new investors.
It said this will be achieved by enhancing the efficiency of public-private sector dialogues at both policy and technical levels, in alignment with the policies of the government's seventh legislative mandate and the Rectangular Strategy Phase IV for the country’s socio-economic development.
During the event, Chanthol invited US private sector representatives, through the embassy and the American Chamber of Commerce, to voice their challenges so that the government could provide appropriate solutions facilitated through the CDC.
He also expressed optimism about receiving positive feedback from American financiers during the upcoming investment promotion mission in the US, which the council will conduct later in September.
In response, Bridgette L. Walker expressed her pleasure in co-organising the first Cambodia-U.S. Public-Private Sector Dialogue, which provides an opportunity to discuss the investment climate in Cambodia.

Walker highlighted the role of American companies in creating jobs for Cambodians and noted that the growing presence of US businesses will further contribute to the country’s economic growth and development.
At the same time, a delegation from the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce (CCC), along with representatives from over 50 Cambodian private companies, is visiting the US to participate in the 2024 US-Cambodia Business Matchmaking Summit in Long Beach, California.
The primary objective of the visit is to explore opportunities for exporting Cambodian products to the US market, particularly agricultural goods.
