Private equity firm Belt Road Capital Management (BRCM) has acquired a 40 per cent stake in Sabay Digital Corporation, a local digital publishing and entertainment group, according to a press release Thursday.

The capital injected into Sabay will go towards further enhancements for internal game development through Sabay Osja gaming studio, as well as boosting a Cambodia-focused e-sports ecosystem.

Funds will be set aside to bring more international game titles to the Kingdom, the document says.

Belt Road is a private equity investment manager based in the capital, which focuses on projects in the Mekong sub-region.

Alex Odom, chief investment officer at BRCM, said that Sabay’s dominant position in the gaming industry in Cambodia and the management team’s expertise in publishing and distributing content leads to confidence over their future growth in the gaming market.

Established in 2007, Sabay has grown to become one of Cambodia’s most renowned technology companies. It predominantly publishes desktop and mobile games for the local market.

“We are excited to cooperate with BRCM as a strategic partner to help accelerate our current projects and to strengthen our market entry in unexplored business areas,” said Chy Sila, CEO of Sabay.
