A new talent on the Kingdom’s art scene is preparing to wow the public with her debut solo exhibition.

Phnom Penh’s Sra’Art Gallery, ever the champions of contemporary artist, are proud to announce Chaotic Harmony, the eagerly awaited solo show by Anya Minko.

Anya, a 30-year-old Australian/Thai artist, arrived in Cambodia at the age of 3, in 1996.

Long since fluent in the Khmer language, to her, Cambodia is more than just a place to live – it is home.

A bachelor’s degree in International Studies from RMIT University, Australia, led to her being awarded scholarships to work in Thailand and Cambodia, but ultimately it was the Kingdom she grew up in that claimed her heart.

Despite a successful career in rural development, art has always been a lifelong love affair.

When she is not in the studio, Anya manages a project that focuses on installing vegetable plots in Cambodian state schools, combining her love of art with her commitment to assisting others.

Chaotic Harmony showcases her bold acrylic paintings and distinctive style. Although the show is her first solo exhibition, her work has already impressed those who have been lucky enough to see it, most recently as part of the Voices exhibition, which drew together a mix of Cambodian and long-term expatriate artists, in support of the Speak Out Sisters initiative.

Each piece fuses abstract expressionism, cubism, surrealism and the energy of street art. Every individual work is an experiment, inspired by the previous painting. They evolve organically, with overlapping figures, intricate line work and vibrant colours.

“I’m excited for viewers to discover their own interpretations in my paintings, as art speaks differently to everyone!” shares the young artist.

The official opening is set for Wednesday, September 25, at Sra’Art Gallery.

Sra'Art is a creative space dedicated to connecting artists, art enthusiasts and anyone curious to experience the excitement of the Kingdom’s contemporary art.

The gallery’s goal is to actively promote and increase public knowledge of the flourishing scene.

“Anya’s debut displays vibrant, free-flowing paintings. Each piece in this collection unravels complex narratives,” explained a statement from the gallery space.

“Her art moves fluidly from one idea to the next, with bold colours and dynamic shapes layering together, inviting viewers into a multi-dimensional exploration of form, emotion, and perspective.”

“Everyone is invited to join and witness these masterpieces,” it added.

Sra’Art Gallery is located on Sothearos boulevard, near the National Museum and Royal Palace.
