Tmatbouy Ecotourism Community, located in Preah Vihear province’s Tmatbouy village, which is part of the Kulen Promtep Wildlife Sanctuary, spans an area of 214,000 hectares.
There are more than 200 animal species that attract international visitors, especially in the hot season from October to April. Some rare and endangered bird species can be seen, such as the Giant Ibis, lesser adjutants, large adjutants and partridge. Guests can also stay at the community, which is supported by the Wildlife Conservation Society, and go bird-watching with a talented guide to increase chances of seeing the animals.
Visiting the Tmatbouy Ecotourism Community costs foreigners $30, to help develop the local communities. It includes a one night stay and food.
Meng Ey, media relations officer of WCS, said: “The service costs $30 and you will likely see two types of exotic animals such as adjutants or Ibis. The community also to pays $7 to hire a tour guide, $6 for a chef, $6 for a cleaner, $5 for security, and $5 to the police, which are included in the guests’ price”. Photos by Heng Chivon
