The Australian International School of Phnom Penh (AISPP) is delighted and proud to celebrate Australia Day, which is marked every January 26 and falls on a Friday this year. AISPP stands out among the many international schools in Phnom Penh and is the only educational institution in Cambodia to follow the Australian National Curriculum. The innovative new school is located in Russey Keo, a bustling suburb in the northwest area of the capital near Aeon 2 mall and the new Makro store. Opened in August 2017 and following the current Australian National Curriculum, AISPP is already a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate IB, Primary Years Program PYP, Middle Years Program MYP and Diploma Program DP. This is a huge achievement for a new school.
VISION AISPP awakens the enormous potential in every child to have a positive impact on their world. MISSION STATEMENT We are a diverse community of critical and creative thinkers inspired to create a world-class school in Cambodia that meets the needs of 21st Century Learners to thrive now and into the future. PHILOSOPHY AISPP recognises that successful schools today have an enormous responsibility to educate Generation Alpha and Generation Z students for their future. As such AISPP is committed to meet the needs of its students with passion, drive, creativity, innovation and dedication. To undertake this enormous responsibility AISPP strongly believes we must focus our efforts on the following four areas. 1. The Student AISPP strives to understand the nature of every child and provide growth-centred, student-focused learning. Each day spent at school provides precious time to learn and to be challenged. We are committed to moving beyond the traditional approach of teaching all children the same way and with the same curriculum. Addressing individual learning needs and ensuring individual learning styles and multiple intelligences are a part of all of our programs ensures a stimulating, targeted, personalised approach. 2. The Teacher AISPP believes that the quality of our teachers is paramount. We recruit outstanding internationally qualified teachers to offer the best programs possible. Our teachers are enthusiastic Thought Leaders who are inquirers themselves and who develop, nurture and grow inquiry within their students. They are passionate about providing engaging and motivational learning activities and rich assessment tasks. 3. Values, responsibility and a Global Mindset AISPP believes that 21st century education recognises the importance of social values and social responsibility. Emotional intelligence, social and emotional programs, ‘doing good’ through action and service programs, and developing international-mindedness feature in all of our day-to-day programs. 4. The Learning Environment AISPP strongly believes that the environment is the third teacher and as such prides itself on offering a beautiful setting, creative 21st Century learning spaces and a learning environment that focuses on local and global aspects of our shared planet and common humanity. AISPP’s aim is to become an innovative, world-class EY- Grade 12, non-denominational international school set on a single campus. Sprawled over 6 hectares, the AISPP campus is stunning. Its brand new purpose-built facilities include a gymnasium, swimming pool, early learning centre, butterfly garden, football pitch and organic garden. Australian-born and -educated Maxine Driscoll, Founding Head of School at AISPP, has assembled a team of highly qualified IB teachers from Australia, Britain, Europe, Hong Kong, New Zealand and the US. “We are totally focussed on providing our students with a well-rounded education ensuring that they learn beyond just the academics to acquire the skills, habits and dispositions required to thrive and be successful in the 21st century,” she says. And of course the Kingdom of Cambodia is at the heart of all that we do. We offer Khmer language and culture lessons at all grade levels. Families no longer need to send children overseas to obtain a world-class education. AISPP guarantees Australian National Curriculum standards in the subjects of English, Mathematics, History, Geography, Civics and Citizenship, Economics and Business, Science, The Arts, Health & Physical Education, Languages, Critical and Creative Thinking, Ethical Understanding Capability, Personal and Social Capability and Intercultural Capability. AISPP also focuses on seven general capabilities: • Literacy Students become literate as they develop the knowledge, skills and dispositions to interpret and use language confidently for learning and communicating in and out of school and for participating effectively in society. • Numeracy Numeracy involves students in recognising and understanding the role of mathematics in the world and having the dispositions and capacities to use mathematical knowledge and skills purposefully. • Digital capabilities Students develop digital capabilities as they learn to use technology effectively and appropriately to access, create and communicate information and ideas, solve problems and work collaboratively in all learning areas at school and in their lives beyond school. • Critical and creative thinking Students develop capability in critical and creative thinking as they learn to generate and evaluate knowledge, clarify concepts and ideas, seek possibilities, consider alternatives and solve problems. • Personal and social capability Students develop personal and social capability as they learn to understand themselves and others, and manage their relationships, lives, work and learning more effectively. This capability involves students in a range of practices including recognising and regulating emotions. • Ethical understanding Students develop ethical understanding as they identify and investigate the nature of ethical concepts, values and character traits such as honesty, resilience, empathy and respect for others, and understand how reasoning can assist ethical judgment. Ethical understanding involves students building a strong personal and socially oriented ethical outlook that helps them to manage context, conflict and uncertainty, and to develop an awareness of the influence that their values and behaviour have on others.

• Intercultural understanding Students develop intercultural understanding and international-mindedness as they learn to value their own cultures, languages and beliefs, and those of others. They come to understand how personal, group and national identities are shaped, and that culture is variable and can change. “Amongst the many international schools in Phnom Penh we stand tall with our thorough curriculum and our outstanding, highly qualified teachers. Our expertly crafted units of inquiry are organised under overarching themes. These include rich assessment tasks and are designed with concepts such as necessity, creativity, sustainability and change, thereby allowing for a real-world focus on what the students are learning,” explains Driscoll. With primary students from Early Years to Year 6 already enrolled, AISPP is opening its doors to Middle School students in August 2018. Why don’t you come and visit during our next Open House on February 11? You can meet the teachers while your children enjoy face painting, pony rides, games and activities.
