Phnom Penh Field Hockey Team will this Saturday host Cambodia’s first ever club level field hockey tournament at International School of Phnom Penh (ISPP) sports fields, featuring club teams from Thailand and Cambodia.

The international tournament, sponsored by Pattaya Printspace, will be opened by HRH Prince Buddhapong, and spectators are welcome free of charge from 12 noon to 6pm on Saturday.

Competing for the trophy will be mixed teams from PSE School Cambodia, FBT Cambodia, Bangkok Inter Thailand, and RBSC Thailand.

ISPP is located on the capital’s Hun Neang Boulevard, south of the city centre, and the action will happen on the main sports field, accessible from the left side of the school.

The following day’s more relaxed events will take place at Cool Sports Club on Street 135 in Tuol Tompoung from 9am to 12pm.

The Post understands there is plenty of parking and catering available at both locations.

“One of the main purposes of the tournament is to try and get more Cambodians active and interested in the sport,” the organisers said on Wednesday.

“One of the teams that is competing is a group of young Khmer students who have been training for the last few months with the support of the charity PSE [Pour un Sourire d’Enfant].”

On Saturday, between 2:30pm and 3:30pm, five to 12-year-olds can enjoy a free coaching session with multi-language trainers – in Khmer, English, French, German, Thai, Afrikaans, Tamil, Spanish and Korean.

Parents wishing their sons or daughters to participate are asked to book a spot – it’s free – by emailing [email protected].
