In this information age, soft skills are a necessary requirement for many jobs in Cambodia’s fast developing economy. These skills need to be nurtured in schools and higher learning institutes.

Kent Ridge International School, a private school in Phnom Penh which runs a dual curriculum, has been diligently working on enhancing students’ soft skills through various activities such as seminars, sharing sessions, student union events and charity trips.

In the sharing sessions, students take turns to speak about their various experiences simultaneously improving their communication skills. In one of the sharing sessions involving Grade-9 students, they shared their experiences in school with juniors who were preparing for the upcoming exam.

The student union presents opportunities to students to organise, host and join activities such as the 2019 Culture Day which was held in the school campus.

On the other hand, charity events are held twice a year with active participation from students to encourage the spirit of teamwork and enrich their interpersonal skills. One of the events had students lead a fundraising community project to build a library in a public school in Kampong Speu province.

Not only does Kent Ridge International School teaches the Cambodian curriculum in school, but it also offers the Singaporean curriculum at the same time. In the morning, students are taught based on the Cambodian curriculum and they learn the Singaporean curriculum in the afternoon.

Another interesting and important component of Kent Ridge International School students’ learning process is Characteristic Building, which is about improving their attitude and personality. It is Kent Ridge International School’s firm belief that having the right attitude is essential to be successful in life.

Besides that, Kent Ridge International School allocates 15 minutes every morning for reading session to cultivate a reading habit among as it helps to expand their general knowledge.

Currently, Kent Ridge International School does not have any partnership with private companies. However, the school provides opportunity for students to participate in internships at other school campuses.

During school holidays, students can apply for internships in a variety of positions. The aim of this internship programme is to give students hands-on experience in an actual working environment before embarking on the journey of building their career. One of Kent Ridge International School’s students recently completed his internship as a designer at Kent Ridge’s campus in Singapore.

To recruit the teachers, Kent Ridge adopts a stringent process of recruitment: application, screening, short listing, written test, first interview, demo class teaching and the last interview. The purpose of this long recruitment process is to ensure all selected candidates are highly qualified and are able to give sufficient support to students.

Kent Ridge is an international branch of Kent Ridge Education Hub, which has a number of school campuses in Singapore and one international education brand in China.

From time to time, Kent Ridge students enrol for Admissions Exercise for International Students (AEIS) to apply for admission into Singapore government schools.

Our students have successfully enrolled in the Balestier Hill Secondary School, Dunearn Secondary School and Northland Secondary School, to mention a few.
