Memoire Hotels and Resorts is reinforcing its commitment towards nation building by making Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) its top priority this year, even though it has remained an integral part of its business strategy for some years.

The Siem Reap-based hotel is looking beyond profits and wants to contribute to local communities based near its business operations.

“Our CSR projects focuses on three areas – environmental betterment, enhancing education and skills and supporting social issues solutions near our business locations,” founder and CEO of Memoire Hotels and Resorts Philip Kao told The Post.

A city cleaning project carried out last year.

The Memoire Hotels and Resorts kicked of its 2020 CSR campaign with a fund raising campaign co-organised with Cheang Bak Van Hong Diamond Jewelry Shop in aid of the Angkor Hospital for Children.

During the charity event that was held on New Year’s eve in Siem Reap, a total of $37,048 was raised.

“Go Green Project, plastic free environment in tourism industry in Siem Reap and nationwide, providing nutritious food for children and promoting community learning are some of the CSR initiatives that will be implemented by our hotel this year.

“Under the Go-Green Project we will be participating in the Green Hotel and Green City initiatives with the Ministry of Tourism and will join the annual tree planting campaign - “One-person One-Tree” project.

“We plan to save more than 300,000 plastic bottles under Memoire Hotels &Resorts and will continue to advocate plastic free environment. We will also implement this initiative in Siem Reap and all over vCambodia,” added Kao.

The Memoire Hotels and Resorts has three properties in the touristic Siem Reap – Memorie Palace Resort and Spa, Memoire d’Angkor Boutique Hotel and Memoire Siem Reap Hotel.

Tree planting is a key CSR project implemented by the hotel.

According to Kao, this year, the hotel would also promote the “Good Food Programme” to offer nutritious food for needy children in remote areas.

“We will also set up a community learning Centre at Peak Sneng Village and provide funds to build a computer classroom equipped with computers for 250 children,” he added.

Last year, the hotel carried out a series of environmental-friendly projects – tree planting drive to protect the environment from climate change, fund raising for the non-profit Angkor Hospital for Children and also cutting down the use of plastic bottles.

“We saved more than 70,000 plastic bottles and exhibited the art-piece made from them to promote the impacts of using plastics to international and local customers as well as our own team,” said Kao.

The 64-room eco-friendly Memoire Palace Resorts and Spa is located at Psar Kraoum Road in Siem Reap.

The hotel helps underprivileged children in Peak Sneng, Siem Reap.

Kao is enthusiastic about CSR projects.
