SEPTEMBER 9: Puot Chanrin, 39, was knifed and seriously injured at 9:30 pm
while returning home from a railway station where he worked as a security guard in
Sre Tachey village, Kampong Chhnang province. Tau Sophal, 33, said a man struck her
husband nine times from behind with a heavy knife then he ran away. Sophal suspects
the assailant was Phau Chanthy because he had fought with her husband during an argument
in the morning.
SEPTEMBER 9: Eang Oeun, 25, was arrested after he committed a rape in Tuol
Sophy village, Kampong Cham province. Police said the man raped a 17-year-old girl
in a rubber plantation field where she collected the raw rubber everyday.
SEPTEMBER 10: Te Khunmong, 38, a Khmer-Belgian national, was arrested after
planning a murder in Phnom Penh. Police said Khunmong hired Heng Kachse, 36, who
was also arrested and later confessed that he received $300 of $1,400 promised to
kill relatives of Khunmong, Phour Hokhy, 50, a father-in-law and Phour Poy, 48, an
uncle-in-law. Khunmong had attempted to kill his relatives because he wanted the
property of Hokhy.
SEPTEMBER 10: Police arrested Tim Yeap, 34, after he was accused of rape in
Daun Krit village, Battambang province. Police said the arrest came after a 17-year-old
stepdaughter complained that he raped her six times while staying at a forest with
him for hunting. The girl said Yeap had first attempted to rape her when she was
12 years old. She recently delivered his child but the baby was premature because
Yeap had forced her to take medicine to abort it, and it later died at a hospital.
SEPTEMBER 11: Nop Tong-dyanit, 23, died from massive head injuries after he
was beaten with a table tennis paddle in Ta Ngau village, Meanchey district, Phnom
Penh. Police said Tongdyanit was struck once on the head by his mother and he later
died at Preah Sihanouk hospital. Kar Bopha, 47, told police she did not intend to
kill her son but she was angry as he had been taking drugs.
SEPTEMBER 12: Tean Reap, 29, was robbed of his motorbike while carrying two
passengers in Prek Toal village, Meanchey district, Phnom Penh. Reap told police
the passengers hit him on the head with the back of a hatchet and a stick then they
escaped on his bike when he was unconsciousness. One of two robbers, Thear, 22, who
was later arrested told police he stole the bike and sold it to someone in O'Russei
precinct.
SEPTEMBER 13: A motodop driver, Yan Channa, 22, was sent to a hospital after
suddenly losing consciousness at 1:15 pm in Chamroeun Phal village, Meanchey district,
Phnom Penh. Channa told police he had been drugged with sleeping pills when he drank
a bag of coffee milk given by two passengers who stole his motorbike.
SEPTEMBER 13: A 70-year-old man, Ten Hean, was found naked and dead at 6:30
pm at a room of Kim Hong 2 Guest-house in Psar Thmey 2 precinct, Phnom Penh. Police
said the man got over-excited and died from a heart attack as he got high emotion
while having sex with a 20-year-old prostitute.
SEPTEMBER 13: A motodop driver, Kong Bora, 31, was killed in a night-time
robbery in Phuem Bei village, Sihanoukville. Police said Bora was hit on the back
of the neck with a stick and strangled with a rope then his body dropped at a nearby
forest by his passenger who escaped on his motorbike.
SEPTEMBER 14: Police freed an 11-year-old boy, Reth Kakadar, after he was
kidnapped a day earlier in Phnom Penh Thmey commune, Russei Keo district, Phnom Penh.
Police said Kakadar was captured by Var Chamroeun, 21, who was arrested while staying
with the boy at a new building near Heng Ly market. Chamroeun sent a letter to the
boy's parents and demanded $1,000 ransom.
SEPTEMBER 14: A Thai businessman, Chhai Yang, 62, who is a deputy chief of
a cosmetic import company, was found dead at 4 am at his residence in Tuol Svay Prey
2 precinct, Phnom Penh. Police said Chhai probably died from dizziness after returning
home from the Intenan restaurant where he drank too much beer the previous night.
Chhai had recently slid and suffered severe head injuries while using a toilet at
the restaurant and police thought this might be related to his death.
SEPTEMBER 14: Phnom Penh Municipal Court sentenced two people for a robbery
and illegal gun possession in Phnom Penh. A judge, Ya Sakhan said Sous Samarth, 23,
was sentenced to eight years in prison for pointing a gun at a motorbike driver to
steal his bike. His accomplice, Chan Rothana, 21, was sentenced to four years in
prison.
SEPTEMBER 14: Police arrested Yuo Samarth, 31, after he killed a baby the
previous week in Chhouk village, Kandal province. Police said Samarth cut the baby's
limbs and put them in a suitcase then dropped it in front of a house belonging to
his mother-in-law. Khieu Ly said Samarth recently sent her a letter and threatened
to kill his wife and the baby if she did not gave him $800.
SEPTEMBER 14: Police arrested two people after 559,600 pills of Yama drug
were found in their two suitcases loaded on a fast boat while crossing a river at
1:30 pm in Dang Tung village, Kratie province. The traffickers, Sin Thean, 29, and
Lan Sisophon, 28, told police so far they imported three times from Lao border and
sold it to a businessman in Phnom Penh. The traffickers refused to name their partner
but police are continuing to investigate.
SEPTEMBER 15: Soy Sovanna, 25, died at Preah Kossamak hospital after he drank
insecticide during a four day visit to his brother's house in Psar Depot precinct,
Phnom Penh. His family told police Sovanna, who came from Bek Peang village, Kampong
Cham province, committed suicide because he tried to love a neighbor girl and his
advances were refused.
SEPTEMBER 15: A mob killed three suspected robbers while they were in a police
car driving on the way to a prison in Ampil village, Takeo province. Police said
the mob blocked the car and pushed the suspects down then killed them with knifes
and sticks. Soung Ran, 28, Chin Choeun, 29, and Sao Phin, 28, were arrested while
preparing to commit a robbery the previous night.
SEPTEMBER 16: Phnom Penh Municipal Court sentenced a New Zealand national,
Malcom Anthony Hatfield, 58, for having sex with children in Boeng Keng Kang 2 commune,
Phnom Penh. A judge, Thorng Ol said Hatfield, who is an English teacher, was sentenced
to ten years in prison for having sex with nine teenagers from 12 to 16-years-old.
Hatfield was ordered to pay two million riels to each four children for damages.
SEPTEMBER 16: Huoy Sovanna, 19, was sent to Preah Kossamak hospital for treatment
after being knifed at 5:30 pm in Teuk Laak 2 precinct, Phnom Penh. Sovanna told police
three people blocked his motorbike and struck him in the head with a heavy knife
then they escaped on a motorbike. Sovanna said the assailants revenged him as he
had recently argued with them over a girlfriend.
SEPTEMBER 17: Siv Poeu, 39, was fatally shot at 8 pm in Bavit Kandal village,
Svay Rieng province. Police said a military uniform man entered Poeu's house and
shot him nine times with an AK-47 then escaped to the Vietnam border. Police suspect
the murder was involved with a Vietnamese national, Tai Tey, 50, because in the early
evening he had argued with Poeu over a debt of $60,000 from a joint business venture.
