Battambang provincial court prosecutors’ spokesperson Heng Luy told The Post on Thursday that the court is investigating possible fraud by Hang Land Lord Development Co Ltd executive director Hang Prinya and two of his staff regarding the sale of land.

Police in Battambang town detained Prinya, also known as Chhy Chakrya, on Tuesday after he intervened to protect the two staff members – Chhin Rattana and Cheu Chanda – who had been summoned for questioning over alleged irregularities in the paperwork used to sell land.

Luy said Battambang police detained the three men on Wednesday to gather a case involving fraud charges to be presented in court.

“Hang Prinya and his two staff members were questioned by our prosecution team in separate rooms but, as of Thursday afternoon, questioning has not yet completed. Our prosecution had police officials take them back to the provincial police station, pending further questioning on Friday morning,” Luy said.

Provincial police officer Chhoeung Kimsong on Monday said his office had received a complaint from local residents that Hang Land Lord Development had deceived them into buying land at its coconut plantation in Battambang town’s Samlot and Sangke districts.

“After conducting research, authorities decided to summon two staff members to be questioned, after the company made guarantees based on certain documents."

“But the documents showed that the company has thousands of hectares of land in several places and the authorities’ doubts were raised. The three men have now been detained by provincial police,” Kimsong said.

Hang Land Lord Development general manager Than Kagna insisted to The Post on Thursday that the company had not cheated anyone who had bought land at its plantation.

“The charges levelled against Hang Prinya and the two staff members may be the result of a misunderstanding, or perhaps ill-intentioned individuals aiming to damage the company’s reputation."

“We call on the court to drop the charges against the three members of our company immediately,” Kagna said.
