Three men were arrested on Friday for allegedly using a sword to steal a man’s motorbike in Phnom Penh’s Meanchey district, according to a city police official.

“The victim saw them with a sword and ran off, leaving his bike behind,” Tey Visal, deputy chief of the penal office at Phnom Penh Municipal Police, said.

After receiving the complaint, police officials from the municipal police force worked with Meanchey district police to raid the guesthouse where the three suspects lived, arresting them the same day, and confiscating two motorbikes, including the one that was allegedly stolen.

Visal identified the suspects as Long Sareth, 30; Chhun David, 25; and Hem Panha Rith, 33. Panha Rith was the ringleader, Visal said.

He also said that the suspects were just released from prison about three months ago after serving time for another robbery.

Police are preparing documents to send them to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Monday.
