The Phnom Penh Municipal Court has placed three men and a woman in pre-trial detention following their arrests in three different locations on June 4 and June 7 that resulted in the seizure of nearly 4kg of methamphetamines.

In Song, deputy director of the Ministry of Interior’s anti-drug department, told The Post on June 10 that the accused, aged 29 to 37, have been held in prison by order of the investigating judge on June 9.

“The four accused are charged with illegal drug trafficking under Article 40 of the law on drug control,” he said.

Song said the four were apprehended in a three-part sting. The first phase took place around 8pm on June 4, when they raided a rented house in Kakap commune’s Por Prok village in Phnom Penh’s Por Sen Chey district.

Song said the second phase took place on June 7 after midnight and resulted in the arrest of one suspect and confiscation of a large package of crystalline powder suspected to be methamphetamines weighing 993.49 grammes.

The third raid was on June 7 at the base of the Stung Meanchey Bridge in Toul Kork district’s Boeung Salang commune, where police arrested the fourth suspect and seized one large and three smaller packages of suspected methamphetamines weighing a total of 1294.39 gramme.
