The Telecommunication Regulator of Cambodia (TRC) on September 22 issued a notice reminding all mobile phone service providers to stop providing users with any additional credit that takes the form of a “loan scheme”.

The notice said any loans that had already been contracted must be honoured for one month. Providers must continue to recognise any pre-loaned credit until it has been used, or until October 19 at the latest.

TRC warned that strict action would be taken against any mobile providers who violate government regulations and directives.

The regulatory body will continue monitoring all mobile operators to ensure they adhere to the directive.

It first issued the directive in July.
