Banateay Meanchey provincial police are on the lookout for those behind the planting of a time bomb in a restroom at the Golden Crown Casino in Poipet town on Sunday night.

Poipet town police chief Thin Sindeth told The Post on Monday that the homemade device was found in a restroom by a casino patron, who brought it to a security guard.

The guard placed the bomb on a sewer cover in front of the casino and called the police, who requested assistance from the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC), Sindeth said.

“CMAC experts came and destroyed the explosive device at night. Nobody was injured in the operation,” he said.

Sindeth said police had launched an investigation to find who had planted the bomb.

Sam Vireak, head of Banteay Meanchey CMAC, told The Post the bomb was homemade and set to go off at a certain time.

The bomb exploded powerfully when detonated, he said. CMAC is in the process of ascertaining what the bomb was made of.

“We collected samples of the explosive materials to find what was used to make the bomb,” he said.

A Poipet town police official who requested anonymity said the Cambodian national who found the bomb was called in for questioning on Monday as part of the investigation.
