More than 4.39 million people in Cambodia had received their third dose of Covid-19 vaccine, or booster shot, as of January 13, according to the Ministry of Health.

Ministry spokeswoman Or Vandine, who also chairs the national Covid-19 vaccination committee, contributed the "good progress" to the local authorities' efforts in encouraging people to get the jabs.

She said officials in charge of vaccinations did whatever possible to bring Covid-19 jabs to people living in remote areas.

“To [assist] people who have difficulties getting to vaccination sites, we will carry our basket containing vaccines to their home to vaccinate them,” she said.

Vandine reiterated that all vaccines administered to the people in Cambodia are safe and can save lives as they have been approved for emergency use by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

“We do not acquire vaccines that are not recognised by WHO for use here. We do thorough assessment with great precaution,” Vandine said, adding that her ministry has been working closely with WHO on the matter.

Cambodia's fourth-dose vaccination campaign for target groups begins on January 14 and will run through February 11 in the capital using the Pfizer jabs donated by the Australian government.

Vandine noted that designated vaccination sites would be located solely in Phnom Penh, explaining that the Pfizer jab is a messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccine, which has stringent deep-cold temperature requirements for storage and transportation.
