The National Centre for Parasitology, Entomology and Malaria Control (NCM) has provided 24,800 mosquito nets to community members living in natural protected areas in six provinces which have had a high prevalence of malaria this year. The nets were donated by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).

The Ministry of Environment said that the mosquito nets were distributed to communities in Kampong Speu, Mondulkiri, Ratanakkiri, Stung Treng, Kratie and Preah Vihear provinces with each family receiving one net.

The ministry also said that in 2020 and 2021, the ministry distributed 6,000 mosquito nets to rangers and to members of communities in the natural protected areas.

Environment ministry secretary of state Mom Thanay – who is also in charge of the ministry's working group for eliminating malaria – handed out the mosquito nets in the Sre Preah natural protected community and to rangers in Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary in Mondulkiri province.

She urged the community, rangers and anyone travelling to areas with a high incidence of malaria to prevent the contraction of malaria by sleeping under mosquito nets at home and during missions in the natural protected areas.

She also expressed the gratitude of leaders from the environment ministry, NCM, Ministry of Health and others to the community members and the rangers who play an important role in protecting the forests and preventing natural resource crimes in the protected areas.
