Over 5,000 marijuana plants from a chain of plantations were destroyed in Takeo province’s Chroy village on Thursday.
Nget Chanthy, deputy commander of Takeo’s Military Police, said a total of 25 officers in Kirivong district staged a crackdown after getting approval from prosecutor Chiv Chandara.
The area they busted was located on O’bek Thland Mountain and contained 5,637 marijuana plants.
They said a tip-off led to the crackdown, but no arrests were made at the remote plantation.

“We are investigating to identify the plantation owner in order to take legal action,” Chanthy said.
Nearly 100k plants
He confirmed that 14 different growing plots were found at the mountain site, most averaging around 672 square metres.
All the plants were set ablaze on site and 10 wells used to water them were destroyed.
Local media said nearly 100,000 marijuana plants were destroyed in Kirivong district alone since February. Sixty watering wells have so far been destroyed.
