The Takeo Provincial Court placed a man in pre-trial detention on October 23 and is investigating five other suspects in connection with the murder of a woman in Neak Ta Tbal village of Angkor Borei district’s Kok Po commune.

Provincial court spokesman Nget Davuth told The Post on October 24 that Amy, 33, had been charged with premeditated murder under Article 200 of the Criminal Code.

Amy faces life imprisonment if found guilty.

District police chief Phan Phal said Amy, a resident of Stung Kambot village in Angkor Borei district and commune, was arrested on October 21.

Citing confession obtained during questioning, he said Amy was angry with Puth, a 34-year-old man living in the same village who was in a relationship with the woman he also loved.

According to the accused, Puth and the woman loved each other but did not get married. On the day of the incident, Amy and five other men used a boat to ram the couple’s boat while they were on the lake together. The woman died while Puth was sent to hospital by his family.

“According to the injured man, this is love triangle. [Puth] said the suspect also loved the woman,” he said.
