Kratie provincial police are questioning a man who was arrested on Thursday in connection with the murder of a journalist on February 3 in Snuol district’s Pi Thnou commune.

Deputy provincial police chief Suos Chamroeun told The Post on Sunday that 19-year-old Vorn Vinh is suspected of killing 18-year-old Sorn Sithy, a reporter for the Battambang Post online agency, following a heated argument at a dance party.

“We are detaining him for questioning. We haven’t extracted all the details yet as our investigation is ongoing. He’s one of the suspects we were hunting. We’ll surely find out who else is involved in this case,” he said.

Chamroeun said that after the party, Vinh and his crew followed and attacked the victim while his two accomplices, Rith Seiha and Lim Sok Kong, threw stones at him, causing him to fall off the motorbike. Vinh said he did not learn of Sithy’s death until the next day.

Chamroeun confirmed the murder stemmed from the quarrel on the dance floor and not a past dispute.

“They may have mocked each other at the party,” he said.

Snuol district police chief Chan Sok Kim could not be reached for comment on Sunday.

On February 5, he told reporters that the murder happened at around 12am while the victim and his two friends were riding home from the party with Sithy sitting behind. The suspects then ambushed and attacked them with stones.
