The Ministry of Interior’s Anti-Cybercrime Department director Chea Pov said on Wednesday that the ministry has regained control of all seven Facebook pages of national and sub-national institutions that were hacked from outside Cambodia on November 9.

Pov said: “We spent a long time to get those Facebook pages back under [our] control after the hackers attacked all pages on November 9. [So far] we know that the hackers were from outside Cambodia, but we have not been able to trace the location of their base.”

The department said the hacked pages belong to the Military Police, Kampong Speu provincial police, Cabinet of Samdech Kittipritthbindit (Bun Rany Hun Sen), National Police criminal department, Preah Sihanouk police chief Chuon Narin, Preah Sihanouk Administration, and the Secretary of Ream Naval Base.

On November 9, the date of Sam Rainsy’s claimed return to Cambodia, information leaning toward the Supreme Court-dissolved former Cambodia National Rescue Party was posted on the hacked Facebook pages.

A post on Narin’s page read: “The national armed forces have the duty to protect the people, the borders, territory sovereignty and democracy. National armed forces must be neutral and non-partisan. They must refrain from using violence or bloodshed.”

Narin said similar content was posted on the other hacked pages. “They just posted things which were not that serious. But I was wondering why they did not post bad message on those Facebook pages?

“In the past, they would use the hacked pages to attack anyone. But this time, nothing serious happened,” Narin said.
