Minister of Interior Sar Kheng on Wednesday handed over 22 Ford Ranger pickup trucks to the capital and provincial police commissariats. He also gave another three similar vehicles to the districts as part of a push to supply police vehicles to all district police commissariats by 2021.
“I am committed to supplying an estimated 200 cars to all the districts,” Sar Kheng said during a ceremony to hand over the vehicles.
“From now on, the vehicles will be distributed to the districts because the districts have never received any motorcycles or other vehicles. We had distributed motorcycles to the commune instead. The capital and provincial police already have cars,” he said.
Sar Kheng said in the next three to four months, 50 more vehicles will be given to the districts and he will make an effort to have the number increase to more than 100 by year’s end.

“I would like the General Department of Logistics at the Ministry of Interior to make plans to have these vehicles distributed to the districts by 2021,” he said.
Sar Kheng said currently, each commune police station has four motorbikes. But the provision of vehicles has been prioritised to stations along borders as they cannot do their jobs without them.
The Thai-Cambodian border car supply has been completed, but the Cambodian-Vietnamese and Lao borders are still in need of more vehicles, he said.
Sar Kheng said he would continue to hand over the cars to police along the two borders by using the available funds.
He also reminded police officers to fulfil their duties according to the police code of ethics. He called on them to be loyal and serve the people’s interests, not their own or their family’s.
“Even if my older brother, niece or nephew, uncle, or aunt commits an illegal act, we must follow the law. This is called professionalism and following a code of ethics.
“If my older brother or my uncle commits a mistake, and I conceal it or put the blame on other people and the police do nothing, that is not called professionalism,” he said.
National Police chief Neth Savoeun said at the event that the Ministry of Interior provided 1,646 motorbikes to all commune police stations across the country last year.
“From October last year till date, at the request of the National Police Commissariat, Sar Kheng ordered 45 vehicles.
“Sixteen Mazda pickup trucks were distributed along the Cambodian-Thai border and four other cars were distributed to traffic police along National Road 4 and 5,” he said.
