Prime Minister Hun Sen called on compatriots to celebrate the traditional Khmer New Year at home and remain vigilant about protecting themselves from Covid-19.

In his New Year address early on April 14, he said: “Although we cannot celebrate the festivities with a large number of people in public, we can still adhere to our tradition. We need to adapt to this new normal for some time to avoid Covid-19.”

The prime minister reminded people to practice health measures including the "three protections and three don’ts" and watch out for fires ignited by incense sticks, among others.

This marked the second year since the pandemic began that Cambodia has imposed inter-provincial travel ban during the New Year holiday.

“Please, our compatriots, understand that the temporary travel ban is aimed at curbing the spread of the Covid-19 virus in our country,” he said.
