Vann Ramon, the deputy director of the immigration department and shareholder of Arey Ksat ferry port committed suicide, Lvea Em deputy district police chief in Kandal province, Phorn Sreng said.

He concluded this following a post-mortem examination of the body and a visit to the crime scene by experts.

They found a bullet, a shell of a K59 pistol and a weapon document which confirmed that it belonged to the deceased, as well as three magazines loaded with 17 bullets in total during the investigation, Sreng said.

“The victim was found lying on a small bed with one leg on the armchair and shoes were properly worn. There were traces of a gunshot at the right temple, indicating the bullet went through the left ear, and the experts concluded that the victim committed suicide,” he said.

Unable to comment on the motive for the suicide, Sreng said the investigation team is still collecting information from Ramon’s family.

“Family members and relatives did not provide any detailed information to the authorities, saying only that, ‘the deceased had an illness and some family issues’.”

The police report said the crime took place at 5:15pm on Tuesday. The body was first discovered by Veng Darith, the port manager, who had entered the house to collect petrol. He called the police upon seeing Ramon’s body.
