Duo caught with nearly 100kg drugs land in court

A Cambodian woman and a Chinese man involved in trafficking nearly 100kg of drugs in two separate cases have been arrested and sent to court.

The Cambodian woman, Chhorn Sokha, was involved in the exchange of more than 52kg of methamphetamine. She was arrested by officers from the Ministry of Interior’s Anti-Drug Department on July 21 in Prek Aeng commune of Phnom Penh’s Chbar Ampov district.

The Chinese man, Hu Fengwen, was arrested on July 21 in Veal Vong commune of the capital’s Prampi Makara district.

The department’s deputy director, In Song, told The Post on July 24 that Sokna was sent to the municipal court on July 23. She was apprehended along with 52.6kg of methamphetamine.

According to the municipal police’s website, Fengwen was arrested as part of a coordinated series of raids by the anti-drug department.

The raids were carried out in cooperation with municipal police and in coordination with Phnom Penh Municipal Court deputy prosecutor Ou Sopheak in four different locations – the first three in a condominium in Prampi Makara district’s Veal Vong commune and the fourth at a hotel in O’Russey commune.

Police arrested the Chinese man along with 7.1kg of ecstasy, 14.024kg of methamphetamine, 24kg of Ketamine, 408g of marijuana and 25kg of precursor substances. The haul weighed a total of more than 45kg.

According to the National Police, on July 24 alone, 22 cases of drug trafficking were investigated with 59 suspects arrested.
