The Ministry of Health established two VIP Covid-19 treatment centres to service well-off patients diagnosed with coronavirus.
One VIP centre is located at the Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital. The other is at the National Centre for Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control. They each have big rooms and separate treatment areas.
During a visit to the facility at the Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital on Wednesday, health minister Mam Bun Heng said the VIP room is designed to be modern and convenient for treatment of travellers from abroad, especially national and international diplomats.
“This VIP room has a separate room with a separate bathroom and modern equipment for foreigners and Cambodians with better resources.

“We provide the same treatment as the general ward, but this ward is more modern. We set up the VIP area to cater to diplomats and UN officials and others who have the resources. Having said that, it does not mean people with less money are not being provided with the same services, doctors and medicine,” he said.
According to a ministry report, there are nearly 100 beds and a team of nearly 100 doctors at the Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital and the National Centre for Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control for Covid-19 treatment.
Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital director Ngy Meng told The Post on Thursday there are about 50 rooms for treatment of Covid-19 patients.
“We’ve already prepared . . . but we don’t have new Covid-19 patients yet. Moving to the special VIP room is patients’ choice,” Meng said.
Regarding the cost, he said the ministry is preparing the price and will reveal it later.
In addition to the expansion of Covid-19 treatment centres, Bun Heng said that to prevent community transmission, health officials will continue to educate people and strengthen quarantine measures at the centres and home.
“All passengers travelling to Cambodia from abroad are required to test without exception. If they test positive they are taken for immediate treatment. If we let them go and they have coronavirus, it will transmit to the community,” he said.
In a press release on Thursday, the ministry said there were no new positive Covid-19 cases, with only five patients remaining hospitalised.
