Cambodian Human Rights Committee (CHRC) has rejected the claims made by Amnesty International that Cambodia had "severely" violated human rights and restricted the opposition, civil society and media in 2020, calling it an "exaggeration".

CHRC deputy president Chin Malin said the claims found in a report by the organisation was the "same old story", and most of the claims were taken from a foreign radio station and a handful of local NGOs that received foreign funding.

He added that Amnesty International never took into consideration the government’s response and explanation.

On April 7, Amnesty International published a report on Cambodia's alleged human rights situation, noting that it had deteriorated in 2020.

"The judicial system was used as a tool to crackdown on critical and independent voices," the report said.
