Queen Monineath Norodom Sihanouk presided over a reception for the 20th anniversary screening of Little Gems to celebrate the 20th anniversary of PSE (Pour un Sourire d’Enfant) on Friday at Chaktomuk Theatre. More than a hundred quests were invited to the event, which was intended to raise funds to support the NGO. The 20-year-old documentary film showcases PSE and the efforts of the charity’s French founders, Christian and Marie-France des Pallières, who fell in love with and supported thousands of Cambodia’s poorest children whose survival depended on garbage dumped in Stoeung Meanchey on the outskirts of Phnom Penh. Little Gems is a documentary movie that shows the real life of the poorest children and PSE founders’ struggle to establish PSE. They shared their livelihood with the children and provided them with food, education and hope. Since 1996, more than 10,000 children have been recued and provided with an education that will ensure them a brighter future. Photos by Moeun Nhean
