Cambodia’s international players return to club duty after a month-long break on Saturday as the Metfone C-League enters its 17th game week.

The top four in the standings are featured in two key evening contests on Saturday, with fifth-placed Ministry of National Defence out to fight back and regain their place in the top bracket.

Leaders Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng, enjoying a five-point cushion over nearest rivals NagaWorld, welcome to their home pitch defending champions Boeung Ket Angkor, whose second-round revival is adding extra dimension to the fight for the four playoff spots at the end of the league phase.

Second-placed NagaWorld travel to RSN Stadium for a crucial tilt against six-time champions Phnom Penh Crown, who are currently third, just a point behind their rivals.

A strong showing by imports Maycon Calijuri, Esoh Paul Omogba and Samuel Ajayi featured in Boeung Ket’s solid win over the Army before the break, in a game where the seasoned Khun Laboravy came off the bench to show his worth.

It is on this quartet that Boeung Ket’s scoring potential lies. The in-form George Bisan, once a prolific scorer for Crown, has bolstered Svay Rieng’s attacking options. Home advantage could be a vital factor favouring the frontrunners.

For the first time since the start of the season, Army lost their footing at the top following three straight defeats.

The side will be hard pressed to make up lost ground when they meet Cambodian Tiger at Old Stadium.

Teams in the lower half of the table will be in action on Sunday’s card of three matches.
