The International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS) has chosen DC-Cam to host its 13th biennial research conference in Phnom Penh.

DC-Cam and Sleuk Rith Institute director Youk Chhang said the rationale for hosting is obvious:

“Bringing scholars here helps liberate Cambodia and Cambodian survivors from being victims . . . DC-Cam’s interest would be to set out a strategy for genocide prevention in the 21st century from a grassroots approach,” Chhang said.

This is the third time DC-Cam has hosted an international research conference.

“The continuity here is for the international community to be reminded on an annual basis about genocide,” Chhang added.

Chhang said DC-Cam had insisted on a unique feature in its proposal for the conference: a panel featuring both survivors and scholars.

The conference is slated for June and July of 2017.
