The ‘Granny Program’ giving access to life’s small joys
A group of grandmothers from an impoverished area of Stung Meanchey have a busier schedule than they ever imagined they would in their 80s and 90s.
Every month or so, they take part in a different activity organised by the Cambodian Children's Fund (CCF), an NGO focused on providing education and development programs in poor communities.
As well as receiving practical support, including clean water and access to medical care, CCF lets the women take the lead in deciding what they would like to do – which in the past has included learning to write their names, taking an exercise class and getting a drink from Starbucks. CCF also tries to connect them with young people in its programs, allowing both groups to learn from one other.
