Cambodia ranks among one of the world’s least attractive destinations for oil and gas investment due to concerns over disputed land claims, cost of regulatory compliance and trade barriers, according to a global petroleum report released by Canada’s Fraser Institute.
Cambodia’s score fell by 10 points this year to rank 90 out of 97 jurisdictions included in the survey.
“Cambodia has been plagued by ambiguous fiscal terms and the government of Cambodia took steps to make the terms more demanding – effectively dispelling further sector investment,” the report said.
Currently, Singapore’s Kris-Energy is the only company investing in the Kingdom’s oil and gas sector and plans to pump oil from offshore Block A by 2020.
